My Kid’s Book Klub
Christmas Theme
Three Tuesday Dates: 12/1, 12/8, 12/15
The Story of Holly and Ivy by Rumer Godden is a tender Christmas story about wishing, belonging, and finding a home. It follows three characters whose Christmas wishes are intertwined: Ivy, a young orphan who longs for a family; Holly, a Christmas doll who wishes for a child of her own; and Mr. and Mrs. Jones, a couple who desperately want a child to share their home and Christmas with.
On Christmas Eve, Ivy finds herself alone and searching for the grandmother she imagines she has. At the same time, Holly is sitting in a toy-shop window, hoping someone will choose her. Their paths eventually cross, setting up a story about hope, loneliness, friendship, family, and the power of wishing.
Throughout our time in Book Klub, we will be building important reading skills while exploring each of our carefully curated books. Reading will be more than simply finishing a book. Readers will be encouraged to think deeply about what they are reading and make connections.
We will also participate in group discussions where readers can share their thoughts, ask questions, and listen to different perspectives.
As always, our goal is to help readers become more confident, thoughtful, and active readers while showing them that reading can be both meaningful and enjoyable.
